Overcoming the Fear of Criticism

You have this great idea and can’t wait to tell your friends and family about it. Unfortunately, they don’t share your excitement and give you a thousand and one reasons why it won’t work and why you can’t do it.
Before you know, you start to doubt yourself and agree that the idea will not work and wasn't a good idea after all.

Criticism is the one form of service, which everyone gives too much and tend to provide without a measure of consequence.

For many, speaking in public is one of their greatest fear, why?  because of their fear of being criticized by the audience. The first step to overcome the fear of what others might think of us.

For some reason, what people think of us becomes a factor in our achievements. It can have such an impact, that unfortunately, many are limited by other people’s opinions.  In most cases, it affects people's personal life, professional performance, success, and achievements.

You have to decide who you want to be in control of your thoughts and life.  Who's it going to be? you or someone else?

Live Your Life like a Hero

You are the main character in your life’s drama; it’s up to you to decide which part you want to play. You can choose to be the hero or you can choose to be the victim.

We start our lives by being pushed, pressed and fighting to get out of a narrow space. For the rest of our lives, we find ourselves in more narrow spaces that we must fight to get through, but we keep at it until we persevere. It is by overcoming these narrow places in our lives that we free ourselves from tunnel vision and become heroic survivors of our own life voyage.

When we get stuck in a narrow place, we stay there because of fear. Fear keeps us from making the journey. It keeps us stuck or makes us frantic, disabling us from taking the path of growth and well being. By letting fear take control of how you make decisions, you are no longer choosing your own trail.

Life is a journey of discovery, not certainty, and the best way to make it is simply to take it. A heroic journey is when you recognize and confront your fears, allowing you to move past them and discover truth and purpose.

Try to live your life like a hero; you never know when the path of our lives can become an inspiration to others who are in their own pursuit of purpose.

Fostering Creativity Within a Team

creativitybulb.jpg

We are going to discuss the various different methods which will help your team to maximize creativity.

The first thing you’re going to need to do is maximize your team’s potential for creativity -“you must instill creativity at every level.” And the fastest way to do this is to draw on positive emotions.

The question then is how do you actually get your teams to take a more creative approach to the things they do? What kind of methods can you — the team leader — employ to help accomplish this?

There are 4 methods to apply; of we will now discuss the 1st. one.

1. First, apply positivity and tap into appropriate levels of arousal

Remember, the reason you’re doing this is to reshape people’s emotions. After all, you can’t force someone to be creative if they are unhappy. Creativity comes most easily when people feel relaxed and at ease.

“Team leaders take specific steps to help people experience the appropriate levels of arousal and the optimal level of positive emotions because they know that such a state releases the utmost creativity. They pay close attention to the emotions running through their team, and whenever necessary, they take sure steps to reshape less than optimal emotions. While they can’t force an individual or team to think creatively, they can help them open the door for creativity.”

Any step taken into this direction has to be based on the shared norms and beliefs of the Company taking into consideration the values found within a functioning group.

It is of utmost importance to make exceptional events be EXCEPTIONAL – never ever treat them as an ordinary event. When you team does something wonderful:

  • Rejoice:  Stay emotional rather than minimizing the event with logical explanations. “Wow ! We hit the one million mark !  Amazing ! “
  • Celebrate:  Commemorate the event. “This marks a milestone not just for the company but the positive efforts of our team. Lunch at the Best Steak House on me ! “
  • Exclaim:  Show your emotion, telling people how it makes you feel. “I can’t tell you how happy this makes me. I feel like the day we brought my newborn baby home from the hospital.
