How To Have The Ability To Persevere and Reach Your Goal

1. Don’t take no for an answer

You have to make it happen even if the odds are against you, even if others tell you “you can’t do it”.  Understand that success often lies behind a thick wall of rejection. Don’t let that stop you. When you know you are into something special, you have to stand your ground.

2. Have a definite purpose

Take continuous action on your plan, close your mind tightly against negativity and surround yourself with people. A definite purpose backed by a burning desire for its fulfillment is what will allow you to reach your goal.

3. Fake it until you make it

See yourself already as the best you can be. Create pictures in your imagination of what you want to achieve. Visualize your goal to every last detail and you will be able to clearly define your road to success.

4. Have faith

Faith provides you with the power to persist, only you know what you are capable of.  Faith will provide you with inspiration, power, self-confidence.

It’s Not About Where You Start, It’s Just About Starting

Fotolia_77946047_XS.jpg

There's rarely a need to find the best place to start. All starting points are equally valid. Worrying about where to start a project often results in the worst of all possible consequences: never starting at all.

In improv, saying whatever comes to mind when it's your turn to speak is often far better than pausing while thinking of the "best" thing to say. Go with whatever you have and try to turn it into a good idea rather than trying to find a good idea before you start.

You can apply this maxim to speeches. Instead of writing your notes down precisely, write your speech as a series of questions to yourself and then answer the questions naturally while you're talking with whatever comes to mind.

You’ll find that once you start something your end result will be great no matter where you started.

Exercise: think of a project that needs to be done. After you finish reading these notes, go and do the first thing that comes to mind about completing the project. Repeat until you are done!

Conflict Management is part of your Social Skills -a component of your Social Competence.

While Social Skills, in general, are related to your adeptness at inducing desirable responses in others -Conflict Management relates to your ability to negotiate and resolve disagreements.

People who have this competence usually:

  • Handle difficult people and tense situations with diplomacy and tact.
  • Spot potential conflict before they become a major issue.
  • Bring disagreements into the open and help to de-escalate
  • They are always tactful and sensitive to other people's perspectives.
  • Encourage debate and open discussion.
  • Are able to read the feelings of the opposition.
  • Orchestrate win-win solutions

Conflict Management involves negotiation, the best negotiators are those who can sense which points matter most to the other party and gracefully concede on those while pressing for points that bring the best win-win solution forward.
