If there is something I’ve learned about success and achievement, is the importance of your mental strength over any other ability or quality you may possess.

We’ve all heard the quote “mind over matter”, and it is quite true; you can achieve anything if you set your mind to it.

For the next 3 weeks, we’ll be delivering 4 blogs with tips on how to build your mental toughness, and the topics will cover the following:

  1. Focus on yourself first
  2. Discover your purpose
  3. Define your path
  4. Create a supportive environment for your new purpose

So, let’s start with the first one then:

Focus on Yourself First

If you want your mind to become an undefeatable weapon at your service, self-awareness is the place to start.

Self-awareness is the ability to look at yourself without any attachment to what you’re going to find. You just look at what is there; emotions, thoughts, patterns… you evaluate everything objectively.

This is the only way to know where you actually stand, what is your starting point. One way to establish your self-awareness is using a journal.

Find a quiet place and use least some 10 minutes a day to write about your thoughts, feelings, etc.
This will be your starting point.

Now you need a destination; something to move towards to.

There is a great tool widely used by the renowned coach Jack Canfield called Vision Board, which can help you define your “destination point”. In it, you simply add pictures or drawings of the things, events, and situations you’d want to achieve for you.

Before taking on these exercises, try doing some deep breathing to center yourself, and spend some time reflecting on who you are, where you are, and what you want for your life. These two points of focus (your actual and your future self), when practiced as a reliable habit, will give you enough knowledge about yourself to move on to the next step in this path to mental toughness: Discover Your Purpose, which we’ll be covering it next week.

Until then, keep going, stay strong

Cheers!

How to Reach Your Goals Even Under Pressure

Fotolia_127744511_XS.jpg

Often times we reach our goals under pressure. The reason many people haven't tried it, is because it is very uncomfortable and puts you under a lot of strain. A lot of people haven't reached the place they want to be because they are afraid of going all in and having that pressure on them to succeed.

Here are the three ways to reach your goals through pressure:

1. Step far outside your comfort zone

In order to do this, you have to be willing to put yourself out there regardless of what others might think. You have to be so grounded in your purpose that you're willing to do whatever it takes to reach your goals, no matter how uncomfortable it might be.

How to apply this: A great exercise to start training your brain to go outside your comfort zone is whenever you see an opportunity aligned with your purpose, go for it without thinking about it. A lot of times overthinking can kill our dreams "what if this, what if that!" No, tell the voices in your head to shut up and just throw yourself into the opportunity and calibrate as you go on... You'll be happy you did afterward (no regrets, just massive action).

2. Take advice but let your heart make the final decision

Okay, this is very important, a lot of people will tell you what they think is best for you or put you down because they're too afraid to follow their purpose in life. Although advice can really help and you should always take it into consideration, in the end, have the courage to follow what is in your heart, when you feel the passion and you are certain of what your heart is telling you, you will feel pressured to pursue (Don't ignore that feeling).

How to apply this: Next time people give you advice on a very important decision listen carefully, take it in consideration, then go into a completely silent spot with just you and your thoughts and listen to what your heart is telling you (Then do step 1 again and again and again).

3. If you're not failing, you're not trying

Forget about being scared to fail! The people who never failed in life are the biggest failures of all because they stayed in the same place and never went after want they wanted. Every-time you fail, be excited because you are one step closer to that one moment that will make you reach your goal. Take the pressure of failure to make you strive for success and eventually success will come.

How to apply this: Whenever you fail, look at yourself in the mirror and say "I'm ahead of everyone that isn't even trying, I've learned something valuable and I'm ready to keep going! Let's do this!" and then growl or roar or howl out loud, and finish off with a smile. This will put you at ease and amp you up to keep going. After repeat step 1 over again!

It's important to know that these three steps fit together like a puzzle, if one is missing, you won't be able to reach your goal. If you're reading this and you haven't accomplished what you want in life, it's time to put pressure on yourself... stop procrastinating! I promise you that when you start doing this you will feel stronger and happier, no matter how hard it gets.

"The feeling of doing something way outside your comfort zone that is in line with your purpose is indescribable but it's worth living for, don't stay numb and live in autopilot, go live the life you were meant to live... We are all here for a reason, once you find it, feel the pressure and go for it.
