What's The One Word for Startup Success?

There are tons of people creating startup companies, many of which don’t manage to take off. This shouldn’t discourage you because failing is part of the process that leads to success. A lot of startup companies that didn’t succeed failed to focus on the most important word…“TRACTION”.

Traction is a sign that your company is taking off. Let me explain: it can be measured in the number of users, downloads, searches, etc. it all depends on what field you’re in. Many companies focus on creating the perfect product and all the money goes into the creation process. This is a huge mistake because you could have the best product in the world, but if nobody knows about it, it won’t be long before your company goes down. The solution is to focus heavily on traction, get creative and find ways to exponentially increase your company. Look into advertising methods that are in line with your target user base, and start exposing yourself.

Look at your company and find out how much budget you're allocating towards “traction” and be honest with yourself to see how much more you need to put in. Focusing on traction is not only great to get your company off the ground but it also helps to see if your product actually has a need in the market, allowing you to fail faster and move on or pivot your idea into a success.

How to Get Fans and Create a Passionate Community

If you’re someone who writes blogs, posts videos or podcasts, I have a wonderful little tip for you to help you gain traction: create a community. Creating a community around your content can make beautiful things happen. When a bunch of people all gathered together to talk about their common passion, with your content right in the middle of that conversation, you’re going to get tons of views. But, hold on a second.

How do you create a community? To create a community, you have to dig through the Internet looking for people who are talking about the same topic as your content. You have to interact with as many of those people as possible. Don’t go spamming them, have conversations about what you have in common. Go to Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, all of Google looking for the people that would be interested in reading your blog, watching your videos, or listening to your podcasts! Take all the time you have to read what other people are saying about the topic, comment on their posts and go into chats to draw people towards your content.

Be smart about how you interact with the Internet. You have to be an expert on the topic of your content and make it known how knowledgeable you really are. I’m not saying brag and act snobbish; just make intelligent responses that others would appreciate. Introduce yourself to others online, and once you’ve had a connection, direct them back to your content. By that time, they should know that you are really passionate, and will be interested in what else you have to say on the topic.

This will gather people to make the community you wanted. From there, assuming that you’re posting high-quality content on a regular basis, your community will only grow. The first few people that start viewing your stuff will tell their friends about you, and if you encourage it enough, they’ll share your content right on their own social media accounts. What you want are retweets, likes, and shares. With those, your content is exposed to more and more people until you’ve got large numbers of regular viewers anticipating your next post. Keep up the valuable content, and get yourself wherever you can find your potential fans.

Build Your Own Online Empire

By David Mansilla

When in Rome, don’t do as Romans have already done!

In a world where things have been copied and re-copied to infinity and beyond, it’s hard to find originality and authenticity.

There are loads of content available to anyone online, but some – in fact, a good chunk of it – isn’t high-quality content. The web is flooded with ridiculous things, such as memes and other questionable content hidden in the dustiest corners of the Internet. Keep in mind that even those things have plenty of followers.

This, however, can be seen as an opportunity. If you are producing valuable content, whilst being your true authentic self, then people will seek it out. Gary Vaynerchuck, author of Crush it! backs this up: “Quality is a tremendous filter. Cream always rises […] no matter how many cups of coffee you pour” (pg. 32).  By building your own personal brand –something the online public eye can see and recognize as ‘you’– you can begin building your empire of followers. The key is authenticity.

No one wants to follow another Ray William Johnson because there is already one putting out the valuable content people want to see.

You’ve got to create your own brand, using what is different to anyone else: your personality! Every crook and fissure of your brain is different to someone else's. Use your personal brand to voice your thoughts and opinions. You can use this to make connections with people faster and easier than ever before, so use it to your advantage and begin creating content that people are thirsty to see.
