What’s your take on Sales? Professional or Amateur?

Fotolia_139157580_S.jpg

You wouldn’t believe that most career professionals don’t know very much about selling. To become a great salesperson, you not only need to be committed to the profession but also have dedication and willingness to learn. Not to mention to have a desire to be great.

“Commitments cannot take place without an action to follow”

In order to become great--you need to commit.
Committing is devoting oneself completely to something.
A professional devotes themselves all the way to a career in selling.

Grant Cardone defines a professional and an amateur in the following way:

Professional: a person who is engaged in a specified activity as one’s main paid occupation rather than a pastime

Amateur: one who engages in a pursuit, study, science/sport as a pastime rather than a profession OR someone lacking experience and competence in an art/science

To move from an amateur to a professional, observe, take notes, look for patterns, study.

Did you know that once you neglect anything, you will start to dislike it?

Grant made a point. Once you are completely committed to your career, you will see results immediately. Become a fanatic he said; someone who’s insatiable about their commitment to getting something done.

You may come across some people who don’t like selling. They may think it is because they’ve been rejected a few times, or because their lazy, or even because they don’t like people...There are always answers for everything. However, the real reason is actually that they don’t know what they're doing! With this lack of understanding--there’s no control, it leads to undesirable results, ending in the dislike of the idea of selling.

All in all, the first step in success is to eliminate any other options available to you and to JUST COMMIT.

Selling, a Way of Life

By Tiana Vonghachack

The most powerful people in the world all have one thing in common: they know how to sell. To be one of those people, you must learn how to do the exact same thing. Your entire livelihood depends on this ability and it has all your life up to this very moment.

The #1 reason that a business fails is because of its inability to sell products in quantities great enough at prices high enough. It is odd to think, but selling is actually a prerequisite of life. You will find yourself on a day to day basis having to sell, persuade, negotiate, convince and debate. The ability to sell your beliefs, dreams, and ideas is what will open doors for you in the business world and in your personal life. It is ESSENTIAL.

“The best things in life come as a result of something extra that you do”.

Commissions can come in forms of recognition, a raise/promotion, getting votes, getting new friends, and any other positive result of an action you took. Commissions are rewards, and in order to succeed...you need to exceed expectations. Go just a bit further than anyone else, and you will see the fruits of your efforts.

The economy relies on the ability of salespeople. A salesperson can be anyone who is motivated by the ability to produce.

Without them there would be no:

  • Distribution
  • Storage
  • Or advertising!

It’s imperative to your work and personal life to understand the true importance of being able to sell. The sooner this is accepted, the sooner you can make your way to new successes.

The Right Mindset for Successful Networking (Part 3/3)

Fotolia_166747277_XS.jpg

In previous blogs, we mentioned that successful networking requires the right mindset. We also mentioned that n order to create the right mindset you have to:

  • Become a member of the club
  • Don't keep score
  • Define what's your mission
  • Build it before you need it

We will now discuss the fifth block required to build the right mindset:  Audacity

The genius of audacity:

  • People with a low tolerance for risk whose behavior is guided by fear, have a low propensity for success
  • Mustering the audacity to talk with people who don't know me often simply comes down to balancing the fear I have of embarrassment against the fear of failure and its repercussions. For me, I either ask or I am not successful. That fear always overrides my anxiety about rejection or being embarrassed
  • Find a role model - need someone to unconsciously affirm our own behaviors
  • Learn to speak
  • Get involved
  • Feel most comfortable when you're doing something you enjoy
  • Being a leader in life takes practice, so practice
  • Get therapy
  • Might help you address your own fears and social anxieties in a more productive way
  • Just do it
  • Meeting with one new person a week
  • FAIL, FAIL AGAIN, FAIL BETTER
  • State the situation. You go right in and hit them with how you see it in the cold light of day, without being too inflammatory or dramatic. You need to know where you stand
  • Communicate your feelings - encounters take on depth and sincerity
  • Deliver the bottom line
  • Use open-ended questions - less threatening
